Helen Downes is a researcher and museum professional who has recently worked on a 3-year project, Spotlight on the Slade Collections, at UCL Art Museum. Funded by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, the project focused on cataloguing and researching the Museum’s collection of works by students from the Slade School of Fine Art. Comprised of some 3,000 works, the majority of which were collected via the Slade prize system, the collection contains 45% women artists.  Research into these artists formed a key strand of the project and continues to be a focus.
